BENGALURU: Three children died as they and their 40-year-old father fell into an open well after the motorcycle on which they were travelling skidded near Kenchappanakere in Yelahanka, north-east Bengaluru, on Saturday.

They were returning to the city after a visit to the Aero India show.

Though the father Thimmaraju, a scrap dealer at Ananthapura Gate in Yelahanka New Town, claimed he swam to safety, his grieving wife Vangeshwari, 35, alleged her husband had deliberately pushed their children into the well due to a family dispute. The couple had settled down near Ananthapura Gate after migrating from their home town Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu 15 years ago. Preliminary probe revealed that Thimmraju took his sons Gokarna, 12, Venkatesha, 10, and daughter Kavitha, 8, to the air show at the Yelahanka Air Force Station around 10am.

When they were returning home around 1.30pm, the two-wheeler skidded and they fell into the well near Kenchappanakere. "Thimmaraju said he swam to safety. We recovered the sons' bodies and a search is on to trace Kavitha's body," police said late Saturday evening.

"As a father, he could have saved his children but after hearing his wife's version of marital discord, we suspect foul play. He came directly to the police station and reported the matter. There was no remorse or grief. This raises suspicion that he may have pushed the kids to their death," police said. Yelahanka New Town police questioned him till late into Saturday night.

"We have to take him to the spot and get him to explain the sequence of events. Then, we'll decide whether to register a murder case against him," said an officer.
