Fire broke out in a room in Hotel Maya International here due to a suspected electrical short circuit, on Wednesday afternoon.
Two fire tenders rushed to spot and doused the flames. No casualties have been reported as the guests were evacuated from the rooms and hotel as smoke engulfed the hotel.
Regional fire officer J.H. Ravishankar said that the fire broke out at the basement hall and thick smoke engulfed the five-storey building forcing the customers to rush out of the building. The building neither has any fire safety measures installed nor proper ventilation, he said.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services will now file a case against the hotel owner, officials said.
BESCOM officials visited the spot to cut off the power supply and removed the fuse.

Fruits and other articles stored in a godown were reduced to ashes as a fruit stall caught fire in Peenya on Friday morning.
According to the police, the fire broke out at a fruit stall on 7th cross in Peenya 1st stage around 4 am. The blaze spread to the adjacent shop also. A few local residents noticed the fire and called up the fire force. Three fire tenders took around two hours to douse the fire. Electric short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire, police said.

MYSURU: In yet another incident of forest fire at Chamundi Hills, at least 100 acres of forest and land belonging to one of the mutts was reduced to ashes on Friday.
The fire, which was first noticed in land belonging to Adichunchanagiri mutt at the foot of Chamundi Hills off Nanjangud Road at around 2.30 pm, spread uphill and the surrounding areas. The thick, tall, dry grass in the region and the blowing wind contributed to the spread of fire.
The Forest Department staff, led by DCF V Karikalan, who rushed to the spot doused about 90 per cent of the fire with the help of six fire tenders by 5 pm.
Karikalan said fire at a linear stretch near Gowrishankar Nagar is yet to be doused and it would be done soon. It was a ground fire and the tall trees haven’t been affected much, he added.
Noting that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he quoted some of the locals as saying that the fire may have been triggered by an electricity transformer explosion. He, however, pointed out that Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) officials had ruled out this possibility.
“Soon after the fire, I alerted CESC who disconnected power to the transformer. But after it was resumed, the transformer was fine. If it had exploded, it would not have been working fine when the power was restored,” he said.
A portion of Chamundi Hills was engulfed by fire on Friday. The fire broke out around 2.30 p.m. outside the hill boundary in the area belonging to the Adichunchanagiri Mutt. However, it spread beyond the mutt boundary and engulfed 40 to 50 acres of ground vegetation. Deputy Conservator of Forests V. Karikalan told The Hindu that six fire tenders have been pressed into service, apart from nearly 50 Forest Department staff and an equal number of local residents, who volunteered to help douse the fire. Though the fire, which was spreading in an upward direction, was contained and brought under control by 5 p.m., high winds stoked the flames that spread sideways. A section of the local community said they heard a blast and suspected that one of the transformers had burst, causing the fire. “We informed the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation, which inspected the transformers ,” said Mr. Karikalan. This is the second major fire in Chamundi Hills this year.

ಕಸದ ರಾಶಿಯಿಂದ ಮೇಲೇಳುತ್ತಿ ರುವ ದಟ್ಟ ಹೊಗೆ ಸುಮಾರು 5 ಕಿ.ಮೀ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿವರೆಗೂ ಆವರಿಸಿದೆ.

Till late in the night, efforts were still on to put out the fire and also convince the 50-odd families living in Gundlahalli to vacate the place. However, the residents, who have been fuming over the establishment of the landfill close to their village, refused to leave the place.
Deliberate attempt
“The garbage has been deliberately set on fire to force us permanently out of the village. All these days, we were suffering due to the stench emanating from the landfill. Now, attempts are being made to kill us by setting the trash on fire,” angry residents told the officials who rushed to the spot.
“Water was fetched using tankers to douse the flames. Several truckloads of soil were dumped on the garbage heaps to ensure that the fire does not spread. Tipper lorries that were at work on the National Highway-207 were roped in to bring soil. But, still the fire has not been extinguished,” eye-witnesses told Deccan Herald at the time of going to the press.
Doddaballapur MLA T Venkataramaiah, who was at the spot, said that Bengaluru Rural district in-charge minister has been requested to send additional fire tenders from Bengaluru, Tumakuru and Nelamangala. Bengaluru Rural district Deputy Commissioner Salma K Fahim and Superintendent of Police Ramesh Banoth were at the spot supervising the rescue operations.

450 gas cylinders explode on Hyderabad-Bengaluru Highway...19March2015
Anantapur: Around 450 gas cylinders exploded when the vehicle they were being transported in caught fire on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Highway near Engumarri village in Kurnool district on Thursday. The explosions continued for more than three hours and the impact was felt in a half-km radius.
Dhone DSP P.S. Babu said the lorry, belonging to Hindustan Petroleum, was carrying 450 cylinders that were to be unloaded at the Nandikotkur HP gas agency. When the lorry reached Enugumarri, driver B. Kullayappa noticed flames coming out of the engine. He drove the lorry to the outskirts of the village to prevent loss of life and property. He then jumped out of the vehicle.
Mr Kullayappa alerted people in the vicinity and also alerted vehicles from both Kurnool and Anantapur to stay away from the lorry as flames reached the cylinders. The cylinders kept exploding for about three hours one after another.
Several fodder dumps caught fire and houses in the half-a-km radius developed cracks. Locals took shelter in the nearby fields.
The police and fire brigade from Dhone and other parts of Kurnool district rushed the spot, but took a long time to extinguish the blaze. The lorry was reduced to ashes. No causalities were reported.
Kurnool collector C.H. Vijaya Mohan and other district officials rushed to the spot. Dhone TD leader K.E. Prathap gave financial assistance of `20,000 to people whose fodder dumps were damaged.

Car catches fire near petrol bunk:: Bengaluru:March 16, 2015
A major tragedy was averted by local residents and staff at a petrol bunk near Lal Bagh West Gate as a car caught fire. Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire.
The incident took place at 10.40 pm when the car was approaching the bunk.
Thick smoke followed by flames were noticed in the engine. Soon the car was engulfed in fire.
Technical fault is stated to the cause for the mishap. The incident led to tension for a while as it occurred close to a petrol bunk.
Nobody was injured in the mishap, fire force personnel said.

Bengaluru: A sudden fire broke out in a printing press by the name of Digital Imaging Inc situated near Mico Bosch in Adugodi late Friday night around 1-45 am (early Saturday morning).
The building belongs to Jayam Reddy. The fire broke out in the second floor of the building. Fire brigades arrived and in an operation lasting almost two hours extinguished the fire.
But by that time, goods and stock worth lakhs were reduced to ashes. The exact quantum of loss is yet to be ascertained.

Bengaluru allows helipads atop 20 high-rise buildings, residential tower
BENGALURU: As Bengaluru's elite look skywards for a way out of the city's traffic congestion, 20 high-rise buildings, including 10 residential towers, have been given clearances to have helipads for commercial and personal use.
Bengaluru currently has only one operational helipad on a high-rise, atop ITC Royal Gardenia, while Mumbai has four, the most famous of these atop Mukesh Ambani's residence Antilia. Delhi has no operational helipads.
Golden Gate Residential at Yeshwanthpur, the city's tallest building with 49 floors, will soon have a helipad. Brigade EnterprisesBSE -1.62 % is in the process of opening its maiden helipad in the city atop its 32storey World Trade Centre at Malleshwaram. It plans to set up helipads on two of its residential projects as well. "Setting up helipads makes business sense as we have some premium clientele," said Roshin Mathew, president (engineering), Brigade Enterprises.
As Bengaluru gains height to accommodate the hordes of people streaming in from across the country, more helipads will become a necessity . As per the fire safety norms for residential buildings, it is compulsory for any building above 60m or 18 floors to have a helipad for emergency lifting. "Helipads should be built above the terrace of the building, with fire prevention system extended to the helipad area," said NU Erappa, Deputy Director (fire prevention), Karnataka Fire & Emergency Services.
According to Penta Consulting, an aviation consulting firm, Bengaluru is seeing an increase in the number of enquiries for setting up helipads as international corporate heads regularly charter whirlybirds to visit their Indian units.
"Helipads not only add value to the building but get right clientele too. Every five years the population of helicopters doubles and it needs landing space.
There is huge demand for charter services from government employees, corporate and business heads," said Subhash Bathe, director, Penta Consulting, which is currently working on four such projects.ITC Royal Gardenia's helipad service is a big hit with corporate leaders.
The service is offered to its Peacock suite guests, who can directly land on the heliport and enter the suite through a special elevator.
"We do not know how successful this business model will be, as take-off and landing time is equivalent to the time taken to reach the airport. Also, it costs over .
`10,000 to fly from the city to the airport," said Sushil Mantri, managing director of Mantri Developers. The company's 46 storeyed residential tower on Bannerghatta Road will boast of a helipad and a sky lounge-cumcoffee shop on the 41st floor.
The demand for helipads is also driven by emergency medical transfers. "Helicopters can be converted to air ambulances by replacing the seats with special equipment and medical facilities in a matter of 15 minutes.
But the service, named Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) is yet to take off ," said Captain Irshad Ahmad, flight operation instructor, Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

A major fire that broke out near a unit of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) at the Kinfra industrial park at Seethangoli near here destroyed standing crops on over 400 acres.
Timely action by the Fire and Rescue Services prevented the fire from spreading to the HAL unit and the adjoining petrochemical unit of the Mangalore Refineries. Dry grass on a vast stretch of land and strong winds made the rescue operations difficult.
Assistant Station Officer K.V. Ashokan, who supervised the operations, told The Hindu that the fire might have been caused when someone casually lighted a fire on the grassland.
The fire destroyed coconut palms, vegetation, and cashew trees spread over 400 acres, in the sparsely populated area. The fire engulfed 50 acres vested with a temple in the locality. The fire was also reported at the nearby temple town of Ananthapuram but did not affect the temple.
Four fire tenders, comprising 32 members, devoted their energy to see that the fire did not spread to the HAL unit and the nearby refineries unit, which had a large stock of petroleum products.

ಅಗ್ನಿ ಶಾಮಕ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಬರುವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಮೊದಲೇ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಣೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಿರುವ ಹಿರಿಯ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ನಿರ್ವಹಣಾ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ವರಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ, ಉದಯವಾಣಿ ಕಚೇರಿಯ ಒಳಗೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಹೊಗೆ ತುಂಬಿ ಏನೂ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಸಂಪರ್ಕವೂ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದರ ನಡುವೆಯೇ ನೆಲದಲ್ಲಿ ತೆವಳಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ಕಿಟಕಿಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದೆವು. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಹೊಗೆ ಹೊರಗೆ ಹೋದ ನಂತರ ಟಾರ್ಚ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿದಾಗ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಉರಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಕಂಡು ಬಂತು. ಅಗ್ನಿ ನಂದಿಸುವ ಉಪಕರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಬೆಂಕಿ ನಂದಿಸಿದೆವು. ಕಚೇರಿಯ ಇಡೀ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಹಾಳಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅದನ್ನು ಬದಲಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವರಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ನಿರ್ವಹಣಾ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಹ್ಯಾರಿ ಆಲ#ನ್ಸ್, ಎಚ್.ಎಸ್.ಕುಮಾರ್, ಎಂ.ಎಸ್.ರಾಜ, ಜಯರಾಂ ಮತ್ತು ಜಾನ್ಗಿÅàನ್ ಕೂಡ ಬೆಂಕಿ ನಂದಿಸಿ, ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Kundapur, Mar 3: Boats laden lorry catches fire, engulfs jute sacks warehouse
Kundapur Fire brigade vehicles rushed to the place soon after hearing the news and prevented further damage.
There are residential houses adjacent to the warehouse. The electric cable that got stuck to the muzzle of the boats had fallen on the warehouse making it to catch fire. The people in the nearby houses who were fast asleep were woken up with the feeling of heat, and rushed out of their houses waking up their neighbours after seeing the flames.
The fire had engulfed the warehouse of jute bags and was about to spread to the nearby houses when the fire brigade vehicles reached there in the nick of time. Kundapur PSI Nasir Hussain who arrived immediately and was present at the place took precautionary measures.
It is said that the warehouse belongs to local mill owner Nagesh Seregar. The driver of the lorry was not aware of the mishap and had driven the vehicle for some distance. The police have seized the lorry and registered a case.
