Fire breaks out in garbage dump

Residents of St. John’s Road in Bharati Nagar woke up to a raging fire that broke out at the roadside dump-yard, late on Saturday night.
The residents had complained to the police and BBMP authorities with a petition and signature campaign to draw attention to the garbage dump on the roadside for the past six months, but in vain.

A few vehicles parked near the dump-yard also caught fire. Fire tenders and police rushed to the spot to defuse the fire.
“This is the fourth time, in the past one year, that such a mishap has occurred. The authorities must do something before anything major happens,” said Rizwan Ahmed, a resident.

“We have complained about six times along with a signature campaign. But the situation remains the same. What ‘swaccha bharat’ campaign are we talking about. I was taken to the police station and threatened by the ACP for taking pictures. It is a shame,” says another resident.
