Heavy rain accompanied with strong winds uprooted several trees in the City on Friday evening, causing waterlogging and traffic jams.

The City received heavy showers in the evening as the cloud remained overcast throughout the day.  The BBMP control room was flooded with calls related to uprooted trees and flooding in many areas. 

The Bescom received 2,687 calls and 1,737 complaints. About seven electric poles were broken. Bumper-to-bumper traffic chocked the roads across the City. Commuters were also stranded at various bus terminals. Waterlogging was reported at several areas, including bus stands. Some houses were also inundated in low-lying areas. The City recorded 18 mm rainfall  and HAL Airport received 13.2 mm rains till 11.30 pm. According to IMD Bengaluru Director Sunder Mahadev Metri, rainy season will start once the monsoon hits Kerala. 

More rains
He said, “We are forecasting that the rainy season will start within three to four days in the State. There was a lot of humidity in the last few days and a wind shear zone has developed in-between the west coast and east coast along nine the degree latitude. Hence, there was rainfall.”

Meanwhile, the weatherman has forecast cloudy sky with a possibility of rain or thunderstorm over the next two days.
